"Gredica" - the Association for Promoting Sustainable Living is a non-profit organization based in city of Varaždin. The main aim of the association is to promote and realise in practice local solutions related to the broader area of a sustainable way of life. The association was widely recognised for the successful project of a community garden called “Miraculous Gardens”, which is currently gathering more than 100 citizens from the Varaždin area.
Gredica is a civic association that, through the implementation of educational and practical activities, promotes a sustainable way of living and building a healthy community.
The first activity organized by Gredica is project "Miraculous Gardens". The initiative started in 2012 in cooperation and with the support of the City of Varaždin. The project has had an extraordinary echo among the Croatian public (almost two hundred media clips) and for it the Association has been awarded with the international award SozialMarie for social innovations. Today, the gardens bring together around 100 people (citizens and their families) who work together in the garden and produce their own ecological fruits and vegetables for their own personal needs. The gardens are equipped with common tools, machines and garden pumps, and are surrounded by 50 trees and fruit trees on common grounds.
The association also regularly organises and conducts highly-attended lectures and workshops in their field of activity (sustainable living): ecological agriculture and gardening, renewable energy sources, ecological construction, ecological (urban) traffic, alternative economics, alternative social models.
