Case Study: Skjutsgruppen – the ridesharing movement
Name of the initiative: Skjutsgruppen
Organisation form: Non- Profit Organization
Domain: Sustainable mobility
Keywords: ridesharing, transportation, car pooling
Skjutsgruppen is a non-profit ridesharing movement. It started in 2007 and now has over 70 000 participants, mainly from Sweden. As an enabler for the movement, Skjutsgruppen has registered a non-profit association. With the Skjutsgruppen app, individuals can offer or ask for rides, share the costs of these rides equally or offer rides for free, and start their own ridesharing groups for either an area, a specific distance or a subject. The app can be used to organise shared rides for commuting, a sports team, a conference etc. There is an app in English that works everywhere in the world. In the six months since its release, participants offered 767 202 ridesharing kilometres. The app is open source so everyone in the world can start their own non-profit ridesharing movements, and it is connected to information about public transportation so users can get both public transportation and privately owned vehicles in the same search results. Skjutsgruppen has also received awards: The Swedish Transport Agency (state) gave us the award "Sustainability innovator of the year 2018" and Apple have highlighted the app as "New apps we love".
