Swap Shop Wolfsberg
Name of the initiative: Swap Shop Wolfsberg
Organisation form: Non Profit Organisation
Starting year: 2020
Keywords: swap shop, giveaway shop, vacancy usage, platform for the exchange of goods and clothing
As part of a SmartCity project with a focus on social innovation, the first swap shop will open in Wolfsberg in January 2020.
The shop works according to the motto "if you have something - give something, you need something - take something". In many households there are numerous unused goods, objects and items of clothing. Through the swap shop, these goods can be reused several times.
This is a contribution to the protection of resources, increasing the lifetime of items and thus to sustainability. But many people are also simply happy when they can give or take by exchanging and sharing.
With the swap shop, a further impulse is given to strengthen Wolfsberg's city centre. Within the scope of an interim use, the shop will open in a vacant space. Since it is not a normal store, it will not compete with the existing retail landscape. Rather, further incentives to visit the city centre should be created. What is attractive about a swap shop is that there is no standardised range of products, but that there are always new things and surprises to be found.
The shop was set up by the Graz-based architecture collective "Studio Magic" as part of a workshop with motivated citizens. The "shop design" is modern-functional and at the same time mobile, thus different vacant commercial spaces can be used in the context of an interim use.
