Brlog cooperative is a brewery based in Zadar. It was established in 2016 by women only as a first in Croatia, operating as the model of equality and cooperation. Brlog is the only brewery in Croatia that operates as a cooperative, and it is totally oriented towards the community. The co-operation was initiated and guided by two entrepreneurs.
At the moment they offer two products: Light beer Blonde and red beer Unsustainable. They sell directly to caterers throughout Croatia and through distribution channels in Zagreb, Istria, Split and Dubrovnik. Beer is available in over 100 catering establishments, 4 retail chain stores and several smaller retail outlets. In two years of business, production capacity doubled.
Recognition for their work is reflected through their activities on the craftsmanship scene, crowdfunding and cooperative ecosystems in Croatia and the region. Brlog was recognized by the European Co-operative Association and awarded The Best European Co-operative to promote Gender Equality in 2018 title. At the national level, Brlog was rewarded through their participation in the Accelerator for Social Entrepreneurship as one of eight selected social enterprises from Croatia. Brlog participates in domestic craft beer festivals and it is active in the work of the Small Association of Independent Breweries.
Through crowdfunding campaigns (more on Indiegogo), Brlog created the network of first buyers and supporters - over three hundred people from Croatia and the whole world.
The City Incubator of Entrepreneurship, company that is part of Innovative Zadar d.o.o. supported Brlog by giving up space for production. Brlog was also supported by a variety of actors at various stages of its development, both in the local community and beyond.
