The second meeting of Working Group 3 (Tarragona, Spain, 15 March 2018)
The second meeting of Working Group 3 was organised in Tarragona, Spain, on 15 March 2018. The meeting was moderated by Christian Frankel, co-leader of WG3, and Gaia Mosconi, standing in for Volkmar Pipek.
The activities of WG3 are focused on: 1) developing a methodology to analyse/assess the impact of the emerging collaborative economies; 2) identifying guidelines for design of collaborative platforms.
The WG3 started its work in November 2017 with a first meeting hosted in Madeira. Thus, in Tarragona, Christian Frankel began with a short introduction of WG3 goals, followed by a summary of the Maderia’s workshop in which were identified several categories of IMPACT.
After that, three members gave a presentation on how they interpret impact in their own work.
- Arto Lanamaki talked about impact in academia;
- Stefanos Nastis talked about environmental impact assessment and its effectiveness;
- Agnieszka Lukasiewicz talked about a Sustainability concept, the “Triple-P” (People, Planet, Profit), developed by Elkington: Sustainability is about the balance or harmony between economic sustainability, social sustainability and environmental sustainability.
After the break, members engaged in a discussion. The most critical point for this WG is to define a methodology and to decide if the impact ‘assessment’ is going to be quantitative or qualitative and if makes sense to talk about indicators. Moreover, members were concerned on how to keep close impact (assessment/analysis) to the case studies undertaken by WG1.
After the discussion, members worked together on the ethnographic toolkit. The ethnographic toolkit was defined as a possible link between the two working groups 1 & 3. Therefore, the leading members of the WG1 committed to attend to some meetings of WG3 and the other way around.
This activity was followed by another collective work session on a second table aimed at identifying categories and subcategories of impact in which existing literature will be listed (studies on impact assessment or similar) in order to create a database that could be incrementally extended even after the end of the Sharing&Caring Cost action.
Finally, Gaia Mosconi presented the social platform: http://social.sharingand… as possible infrastructure to coordinate the WG3 work and the whole COST. Members accessed it and created their profiles.
Gabriela Avram closed the meeting with and overview of WG1 plans for 2018 & communication practices especially related with making our work visible more broadly (P2P foundation, Nesta, OuiShare, local institutions/networks) and on boarding procedure to welcome new members (still ongoing, welcomed good ideas!).
